Clinical Research is the study of experimental therapies in human volunteers. Also referred to as clinical trials, clinical research is often funded by the NIH and/or pharmaceutical companies and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration within the United States. The purpose of clinical research is to study the safety and efficacy of therapies against a control such as a placebo or an existing, approved therapy.
