Distribution Cost Model for Discretionary Reading Is Broken

March 26, 2009

The Newstand Mess; alternatives to the 7-cent solution | www.seyboldreport.com

Wholesale distributors are paid as a percent of newstand (retail) sales. Revenues are not their cost drivers! The "push" of Publishers and "pull" of retail newstands are in conflict with one another. The wholesale distributor is squeezed by both "clients." Kindle e-book concept will eliminate 3/4s of the wholesale distributors and free up most of the newstand shelf space. Hence newstands will follow the path of newspapers...gone.

TALF - Implications for Credit Card Issuers

March 12, 2009

Press Release: The Federal Reserve Board Announces the Creation of the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF) | www.federalreserve.gov

This program will be a benefit for the large credit card issuers: JP Morgan Chase, Citicorp, Bank of America, American Express, Discover and Capitol One, all of whom can position themselves as a high quality, AAA rated, source of new loans. TALF could prove to be especially helpful to American Express, Discover and Capital One, credit card issuers who lack the branch network and deposit base of the big money center banks. TALF could open up a funding source by reviving the credit card securitization market.

January 22, 2009

American Express, First Data agree on payment process pact | www.marketwatch.com

As the economy slows you would have to assume that people would want to sell Grandma's antique green glass collection and on the other side of the coin people would want to buy at a bargain products. Could it be that eBay is hurting themselves.

HP is a long time solid provider of computer hardware, and EDS (founded the information technology out-sourcing industry more than 45 years ago) is a longtime provider of system services. The Plan of Merger, dated as of May 13, 2008, by and among EDS, Hewlett-Packard Company and Hawk Merger Corporation, under which EDS would be acquired by Hewlett-Packard Company appears to merge two very strong technology companies into one   diversified technology giant.
