Toy Recall Shows Challenge China Poses to Partners | online.wsj.com
1. Quality of Products manufactured in China need not necessarily be a representation of other countries of Asia who are extremely quality conscious. 2. In comparision to the past few years it appears China is not taking care of Quality which they have done at the start up of their growth. There may be an exception to this for multinationals set up there. 3. Few questions can be raised why the importers from China are not seeking the inspection of international agencies like SGS,BVQI and the likes. Even if there are problems seeking inspection from international agencies then there must be seriously wrong with the organizational set up of these inspection agencies

1. Quality issues are not new in China, what is new is that countries are using those as "technical trade barriers". 2. What is changing also is that China is making now more complex or health-sensitive products and is not experienced to do it
La-Z-Boy management is in same denial as captain of the Titanic.

La-Z-Boy reformats | www.furnituretoday.com
Kurt Darrow (La-Z-Boy, CEO) has proven himself to be the king of the understatement. In the latest report on Fiscal 1stQuarter results he stated: "Against the backdrop of ongoing challenging business conditions pervasive throughout the furniture industry, our results reflect a significant drop in volume, which made it difficult to absorb our current fixed costs. Additionally, our first quarter is typically our slowest reporting period, due to seasonality factors, including the scheduled vacation shutdown in July at our plants, and is not indicative of our expectations for the full fiscal year." The above statement is the stance that Mr. Darrow has to take to the street but I don’t think he believes a word of it. La-Z-Boy is in critical shape. They are primarily a soft goods manufacturer with humongous capacity utilization problems that prohibit the company to migrate a very difficult classification off shore.

We will refer to turnaround processes, in what it relates to the value chain management. In order to reach high growth rates, HDS business need to invest in product push and product pool, we mean, in the Representatives interest in buying the products and, on a coordinated fashion to attract consumers to buy from the channel. In order to free up the resources necessary to finance the consumer and representatives investments, requires a much disciplined behavior from all elements in the value chain. Even though the right decisions in investments are made, if the rest of the value chain elements perform below expectations, you end up with reduced margins, meanwhile attractive top line growth. In order to deliver sustainable and profitable top line growth, companies need synchronization of strategic execution: investment decisions have to be well resourced by savings in costs and expenses.

The rise in Tiffany's stock price was in line with the rise in the price of gold and other gold related companies in the first 2 weeks of this past July. This rise in gold price was a natural part of the gold cycle for the month of July. Rumors of interest by LVMH are only rumors, and one should not do business on rumors.

Having worked at this company for 3 years, closely with the CEO, I can attest to their vision for their business. Int'l expansion + new products will help, but what the company really needs is new brand marketing. The imagery and tactics uses arent working, and as soon as they realize that they have the goods to be as successfull as some of the pretige and mass players, then and only then will they succeed. That said, its a phonomenial group and it was a pleasure to work their.
