In the Avon case, the cost of expanding their customer base may be costing more than expected in consumers & representatives promotion and advertising, as well as in the product line optimization. Titan Industries Limited is an India-based manufacturer of watches and jewellery. The Company’s primary segments consist of Watch, Jewellery and Others. Others include eye wear, precision engineering, machine building and clocks. During the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007, Titan Industries Limited produced 90,59,059 watches and sold 86,47,138 watches; produced 1,49,012 clocks and sold 1,48,583 clocks, and produced 7,44,826 jewellery pieces and sold 7,20,241 jewellery pieces. As of March 31, 2007, it had 211 World of Titan Show rooms and 88 Tanishq boutiques. Its Xylys brand, is a Swiss-made watch from Titan. The Titan Design Studio focuses on design of watches, clocks, eyewear, trophies and a range of other products. The Design Studio also designs and fabricates trophies for a range of clients.

Bijou Kurien the former CEO of Titan displaced more things than one when he launched TITAN. In the process ( of capturing space in the consumers mind a la Al Ries and Jack Trout ) he ensured the following on the product : relevance, being contemporary, access, information, fashion. He piggy banked on the trust of brand TATA to ensure trust whilst bringing in change, penetrated the market pan India ensuring availability whilst showcasing the range through stand alone stores. In doing all this all this he also ensured affordability without diluting quality. The brand today stands at the edge of 'fashion' as understood in wholesome terms and has added a jewel on the fashion ladder by bringing in'Tanishq'.

Crocs a fashionable plastic cog is being banned from hospitals in the UK and Sweden after reports that static electricity, created by the plastic cogs, caused malfunctions in respirators and other sensitive hospital equipment.

Crocs footwear has been on the market for several years and one of the earliest applications and heaviest sales involved nurses and other hospital people. They are light, extremely comfortable and inexpensive. They have now assumed popularity nationwide for the same reasons. If the static problem can truly be proven and the dangers specifically outlined, the owners of Crocs should be given the opportunity o respond and perhaps find a fix.
