Microsoft’s latest unsolicited bid to acquire Yahoo (it was rebuffed in 2007) at a hefty premium confirms that it is falling far short of where it wants to be in competing against Google. It is counting on widespread dissatisfaction with Yahoo's performance to secure support for this acquisition.

"Domain tasting" is an insidious practice whereby profit is made off domains that are registered then "given back". It has an adverse effect on the growth of the Internet and must be stopped.

Unlike electrical current, data packets must identify source and destination locations to be useful. IP addresses identify endpoints for internet bits. Privacy concerns involve the top ISO layer where applications live. Don't hobble transport providers with application responsibilities....
