Pen delivery of insulin is the gold standard. SoloStar is as least as valuable a tool as the FlexPen.  The SoloStar will impact, mainly the short-acting analogue market, but should become the primary choice for Lantus administration.

Generic simvastatin is here to stay.PBMs are already substituting or asking that generic simvistatin be used. At present ,as generics, need to meet certain standards of efficacy, there should be no major issue.

More and more patients are now requiring Insulin therapy. With the upsurge in obesity rates, we are seeing more need for this form of therapy. Compliance is always an issue. The simpler  the method of delivery the more likely it will be used and used properly. The competitors are already there

The problem with TZD's besides cost, has been the issue of edema. This has made physicians relunctant to use them in patients with CHF. Metformin is contraindicated in that situation limiting the use of oral agents. This study gives us some reassurance that the use of Rosigitzone is safe.

Bariactric surgery is no easy deal. First convince the patient and then have him or her go thru a series of exams by various specialists including psychiatry before proceding. If diabetes is there the weight loss will improve the condition. It is not a primary indication by any means.

Merck may have a reasonable drug, but safety is now a major concern with all NSAIDs. The drug needs to be really side effect free, for the FDA to consider it. This may be a case of: smack me once, shame on you, smack me twice shame on me.
