Much has been written - both pro and con - about the so-called :Cash For Clunkers" Almost 16,000 U.S. auto dealers have applied to participate in the vehicle trade-in program, or about 80% on the nations new car dealers. However, auto recyclers are not buying in to the governments new "CARS" program. Complexity, limited eligibility and minimal funding are common criticisms.

Ford is expected to post a fifth straight quarterly loss on Thursday amid the economic downturn that forced rivals GM and Chrysler as well as well as auto parts makers into bankruptcy. A major issue facing the company is cash burn.
