Symbolic indeed. There isn't enough real estate on the roof of a Prius to come close to powering the vehicle. But photovoltaics might be useful in off-setting battery drain while the vehicle is parked outdoors.

Major decisions need to be made up front on the direction the battery must go.  I do not believe they can afford to continue on a two directional path due to the vehicle system it needs to fit into.  Since they do not have a definite path on the battery technology, a decision must be made...
