No Recession For Computer Hardware | 08-26-2008
Analysis of: Computer Hardware: Recession-Proof? | www.businessweek.com
Author: Paul Massie, Sr. Director of IT and Facilities, Genesis Microchip Inc.

Both the server and PC markets seem to have held up very well during the past months, and barring a catastrophic collapse of the economy, likely will continue to do well.  Credit must go to the innovations in both technology and business processes achieved primarily by HP, Dell and Intel.

Open Source vs. VMWare and Microsoft | 08-21-2008
Analysis of: Xen Community proposing the latest feature set for 3.3 | weblog.infoworld.com
Author: Paul Massie, Sr. Director of IT and Facilities, Genesis Microchip Inc.

The next evolution of Xen software puts further pressure on VMWare’s market share and margins.  This is a clear indication that VMWare’s business model will require a major overhaul sometime in the next year or two.  Microsoft will be less impacted since they have less today.

Analysis of: Mortgage lending falls 32% as prices slump | business.timesonline.co.uk
Author: Mark Mariotti, CEO, Future Management Holdings Inc

Analysis of: Will Tom McKillop resign from Royal Bank of Scotland? | business.timesonline.co.uk
Author: Mark Mariotti, CEO, Future Management Holdings Inc

Yes, it is a mess - I have seen about 3 or 4 cycles such as these over the last 30-years.  We have all seen this mess coming years ago. In 2004, a vast amount of mortgage originators were doing some very creative things to sell mortgages. HEOPA and high cost was in effect while these negative...

Intel’s Nehalem Drives Cloud Computing | 08-12-2008
Analysis of: Intel's Next Gen "Nehalem" to be Called Core i7 | www.dailytech.com
Author: Paul Massie, Sr. Director of IT and Facilities, Genesis Microchip Inc.

Intel’s next-gen Nehalem processor ups the performance bar, making it increasingly difficult for AMD.  Server manufacturers and software vendors will also be impacted, positively or negatively, by this generation of processors, which will also provide further impetus to cloud computing.
