Pier 1 will not be successful in home furnishings
July 20, 2006
Pier 1 Makes Room for New Furnishings | www.brandweek.com
Pier 1's recent furniture introduction is too limited/small to have an impact on the home furnishings consumer. They only have 4 or 5 sofas in their assortment, which is not sufficient to attract
a meaningful portion of the retail furniture business. The styling,
and pricing are acceptable, but Pier 1 errored in having so few from which to select.
Furniture Manufacturers and Retailers Face Tough Business in Q2 and Q3.

Hooker Furniture Revises Second Quarter Outlook | biz.yahoo.com
1. Consumer demand for furniture has diminished significantly over the past 10 weeks.
2. This recent trend is a huge, negative shift in momentum, since Q1 was very good for virtually all furniture companies.
3. This should lead to downward revisions for Q2 and Q3 results for most publicly traded companies involved in furniture, both wholesale and retail.
4. Yesterday's downward revision for Q2 by Hooker Furniture illustrates the softness @ retail.
The Tupelo Furniture Market is headed toward extinction !
April 24, 2006
EDITORIAL: Furniture moves | www.djournal.com
This article (written by the Tupelo hometown newspaper, the Daily Journal) tries to portray a positive outlook for the future of the Tupelo Furniture market. The Tupelo market is held twice annually and is primarily attended by promotional manufacturers and low-end retailers. There are also two other competing markets, Las Vegas and High Point, NC, used by the furniture industry for trade shows. The USA furniture industry is changing rapidly due to the phenomenal growth of manufacturing in China and Vietnam . There is also a trade show in Shanghai in September that is attended by the large USA furniture retailers. All of these trade shows provide fierce competition for the Tupelo market and their announcement of changing the dates to January and June will have no impact.
China will soon be the furniture capital of the world.

Shanghai Greenland to Create China Top Furniture Center | www.tmcnet.com
This new, massive furniture exhibition complex in Shanghai will be a huge success, since China is rapidly becoming the furniture manufacturing capital of the world. There are hundreds of Chinese-based manufacturers that will have showrooms in this furniture complex and show their products to thousands of retailers from around the world that will attend this Shanghai show. The expanded Shanghai show will make the three USA trade shows: High Point, Las Vegas and Tupelo to rethink their strategies, since there is no need for all three of them.
