Thiazide diuretics are currently recommended as first line therapy for most hypertensive patients.  However, they have now been clearly linked with causing diabetes.  Whether or not potassium supplementation can prevent diabetes induced by thiazide diuretics remains to be seen.

Lilly plans on disclosing the amounts of money it is paying to individual doctors for consulting.  Other companies will begin to follow suit.  This will limit how much money physicians will accept from drug companies.
