Mobile Advertising's Gold Rush

Mobile Advertising Set To Soar | www.mediapost.com
Mobile advertising is definitely the new-new thing, but it sounds like the hype we heard when the Web was born as a graphical interface and banner ads started appearing in 1995. Be careful -- mobile advertising isn't going to produce overnight riches. For proof, look at your own mobile device. Where are they ads? And if you see any, tell me if they're prompting you to buy anything. Timing is everything, so before you jump in, read on.

BlackRock's Fink: Forget 'Bubble' | online.wsj.com
Laurence Fink, Chairman and CEO of BlackRock Inc. in response to questions about bank failures and economic conditions suggested today that; “…the financial system needs to be a lot more responsive to society and make sure this doesn't happen again. Risk has to be a lot more transparent to investors. I think that is happening."; and, “the financial system needs change, including increased disclosure, more derivatives trading on exchanges and regulatory change…". But what about the 5Cs of credit?

YouTube Explores Renting Movies Online | www.businessweek.com
You Tube might capture some of the movie distribution market if and only if they are able to work closely with the studios to develop a model that is beneficial to both the studios and consumer. Stiff competition awaits You Tube from multiple angles, not all movie industry related. The consumer, and their behavior, is a key component that must not be overlooked.

Baidu -- A Sleeping Giant Awakens | searchenginewatch.com
The article emphasizes the issue's advertisers are having as they change from an old legacy system of Baidu to a new interface that almost mirrors Google. New Zune Undercuts Apple's iPod Prices | online.wsj.com
In my opinion, Zune has an uphill battle to try and capture the digital music market from Apple. Zune has significant challenges that will be very hard to over come. The primary challenge is a powerful thing called "brand" that drives every mass market trend and wallet.
Nuance Speech Capabilities Can Fend off Microsoft, Google

Nuance Communications Acquisition Facing U.S. Probe | www.bloomberg.com
Nuance can expect to continue to grow by acquisition. With Philips, Dragon, and IBM's speech capabilities, they already control a significant swath of language technology. Plenty of acquisition opportunities remain in the application space, however, and there are no antitrust reasons to stand in their way, especially in light of the fact that Google and Microsoft remain potential competitors in everything they do.
Financial Services Innovation and New Credit Sources Impeded by Regulation in the US
April 5, 2009
Where Credit Still Flows | www.forbes.com
Demand for credit has never been stronger. With government support P2P or "Social Lending" has the potential to improve the efficiency of credit markets and demonstrate US leadership in financial services innovation. The US is behind the curve in P2P lending innovation and losing ground due to the distraction and high cost of regulatory compliance. At a time when billions are being pumped into ailing banks government needs to find a way to encourage social lending. Improved regulation may unlock a wave of new credit options and provide economic stimulus at the grass root level. Conceptually Social Lending and P2P financial models makes sense for consumers, business and the greater economic good of nations; however, the effort to wedge P2P loan models into existing regulatory frameworks continues to impede American financial innovation.

What Should Investors Do Now? | online.wsj.com
Consumers aren't in a buying mood this holiday, but there are opportunities for new companies. I don't recommend the hi-tech plays that won't actualize for another decade, but rather look at some opportunities that should spark demand in a 1-3 year time frame. Anyway, it is the holiday season, and nothing goes better under the Christmas tree than a fresh bowl of optimism.

RIM, like Nextel before the merger with Sprint, needs to move with lightning speed into the consumer arena. Apple and Google have huge advantages in this arena, with greater consumer know-how and a marketing reach that blows RIM out of the water. In this article, I look beyond RIM's new products to brainstorm some strategies that might be useful in this very difficult assault.
