Analysis of: Erbitux Slightly Boosts Survival in Cancer Study (online.wsj.com)
Or whatever the total cost of Erbitux is that is required to get you four more weeks of life.  This is basically what it comes down to.  Most cost-benefit analyses will justify up to $60K spent per year of life in amortized costs, but not above that.  So the total costs of Erbitux...
Analysis of: GlaxoSmithKline given OK to sell bird-flu vaccine in Europe (www.bizjournals.com)
-Glaxo's pre-pandemic flu vaccine is a double opportunity - a chance to contract now with multiple governments to supply a pre-pandemic vaccine as well as a natural segue to become their future supplier of actual pandemic flu vaccine (when developed).  -When pandemic flu hits, the race will be...
Analysis of: EU Approves GSK's Pre-Pandemic Bird Flu Vaccine (www.medicalnewstoday.com)
Glaxo's new pandemic flu vaccine was just approved for sale and use in the EU.  It has or is trying to establish contracts with multiple countries to supply stockpiles with values in the 100's of millions
Analysis of: FDA Approves Strattera® for Maintenance of ADHD in Children and Adolescents (newsroom.lilly.com)
Strattera has been approved for "maintenance treatment" for ADHD, however this probably changes nothing for prescribers or patients.  Those who are on it will continue to take it, but no one will be changing to Strattera because of this new classification.
Analysis of: FDA Approves Strattera® for Maintenance of ADHD in Children and Adolescents (newsroom.lilly.com)
My personal prediction is that this product will NOT be on the market in 3-5 years.  My clinical experience never approached that which the research would suggest.  I suspect that the "research" that was done on this product is frought with company incentives.

we really have had little luck with straterra in  our office.  Even at high  doses,  the drug rarely does the trick
Analysis of: FDA Approves ROTARIX(R) Rotavirus Vaccine (www.pipelinereview.com)
the vaccines may be similar, but I'll stick with the Merck product
Analysis of: Speculators knock OPEC off oil-price perch (www.atimes.com)
what goes up must come down.  This speculation in oil has happened many times during my lifetime and it is the same with all commodites (remember the holland tulips).  Yes, many have and will make fortunes in commoditiy trades, but in the end the real intrinsic value comes through.  When...
Analysis of: FDA Approves ROTARIX(R) Rotavirus Vaccine (www.pipelinereview.com)
-Rotateq and Rotarix are the only two approved rotavirus vaccines in the US.  It's unclear how Rotarix will be priced, and since it is a 2-dose series vs. Rotateq's 3-dose series, the cost will be very important. -However, there are other factors as well, such as Merck being first to market...
Analysis of: Study Shows Once-yearly Aclasta Better Than Risedronate at Increasing Bone Mass in Patients with Osteoporosis Caused by Glucocorticoids (pharmalive.com)
Aclasta, an IV bisphosponate known generically as zoledronic acid, seems to do one thing consistently: it has an uncanny knack for showing an absolute risk reduction of about 1-2% in whatever endpoint is being measured, and against whatever control it faces head-to-head.  It has been shown to have...
