No one should be surprised by this development. With carriers cutting back spending it is important that vendors act early to conserve cash.  

Supposedly parties familiar with the Verizon-Alltel deal say that the contract between Verizon and Alltel is so strict neither party can alter the deal or back out entirely.   Are you serious? What knucklehead signed a contract without a back door?

Large carriers like Verizon will remain largely unscathed.  Small independent carriers will not be so lucky. Telecom vendors who are cash poor will not survive the recession either not well or not at all.

Green is not just about burning cleaner fuels in our cars or alternative energy.  It is also about operating equipment more effectively in a manner that requires less energy and release less waste.  

Just when you thought it was safe to jump back into the intellectual property waters.

Like Ericsson was 10 years ago, Nokia is today – the indicator of industry health.

I am still not quite sure how Sprint and the new Clearwire will coordinate and be able to generate revenue as independent entities. But this looks like good news.

My only concern is the investor. There are certain telecom sectors that will ride out the storm better than others.

Technological innovation today will need to focus on mining greater value out of existing systems. Technological innovation today will provide a level of stabilization in a destabilized technology environment. Alcatel has the right idea – move closer to development.
