Google has potentally created another new industry around books that were mostly only gathering dust. A cornucopia of information is being made available, and it's only small change for Google.

I am not quite sure what to make of this announcement.  The cable giant is not a wireless carrier now.  What makes it think it can build a system and operate it? Cox may need a wireless partner.

Polycom has been a leader in corporate conferencing systems for years.  I recall using their systems in the early 1990s.

The belief that telecom would escape the effects of this long and deep recession is total folly.  I have been screaming recession since late 2007. The belief that telecom will survive is not folly.   Remember that telecom is infrastructure.

No one should be surprised by this development. With carriers cutting back spending it is important that vendors act early to conserve cash.  

Supposedly parties familiar with the Verizon-Alltel deal say that the contract between Verizon and Alltel is so strict neither party can alter the deal or back out entirely.   Are you serious? What knucklehead signed a contract without a back door?

Large carriers like Verizon will remain largely unscathed.  Small independent carriers will not be so lucky. Telecom vendors who are cash poor will not survive the recession either not well or not at all.

Green is not just about burning cleaner fuels in our cars or alternative energy.  It is also about operating equipment more effectively in a manner that requires less energy and release less waste.
