The Black box warning of the Calcineurin inhibitors is faulty
Analysis of: Black Box Warning for Topical Calcineurin Inhibitors and the Death of Common Sense | www.medscape.com
Author: Sunil Dhawan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Stanford University
I totally agree with this article. The conclusions from the FDA are incorrect, and the data appear to indicate that the TCI's are actually protective!!!! Analysis of: Treatment of Acne Scarring | www.medscape.com
Author: Sunil Dhawan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Stanford University
This article is a good summary of the currently available techniques of excision, subcision, and resurfacing. It does not mention dermal grafting, a technique that I personally use quite often. The maximum correction that one can achieve is 50-70% with a combination of multiple techniques.

Analysis of: Cytochroma Completes Enrollment In Phase II Psoriasis Trial | www.pipelinereview.com
Author: Sunil Dhawan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Stanford University
This product by Cytochroma is a vitamin D analog which is similar to Dovonex, a product that has been used for 13 years. Its efficacy is modest at best. Portrait Plasma technology by Rhytec
Analysis of: Blast Away Wrinkles | www.ivanhoe.com
Author: Sunil Dhawan, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Stanford University
This technology is new, but no better than other resurfacing technologies like Sciton and Fraxel. Pain is significant, healing takes weeks, and there are risks as in other resurfacing technologies. The final results are good. A head to head comparison with other technologies is needed.

The hump may have the appearance of having gone but in reality the nose is now larger as the lower areas have been raised. Removing the material is difficult so make sure the patient understands what the downside is.

Not exactly what they claim
Analysis of: New Survey Reveals Dramatic Rise in Non-Invasive Procedures in Facial Plastic Surgery | www.surgicenteronline.com
Author: GLG Expert Contributor
Although the desires and performance of less invasive or noninvasive procedures has gone up, the stats can be confusing. Firstly the non or less invasive procedures do not hold up as long and do not give as much of an improvement, patients need to be told it will be a subtle change, and they need to...

Analysis of: Allegiance Equity Corporation Announces Positive Results of In Vitro Studies and an Open Label Trial for Relieva(R) in Treating Atopic Dermatitis | www.pipelinereview.com

The open label trial results for the product Relieva from Allegiance Equity Corp. are encouraging. However the trials need to be double blinded, and with a much larger number of patients.
