Managed care has squeezed healthcare costs pretty much as far as they can go and still maintain a semblance of quality.  Negotiating drug costs is an easy remaining way to further cut costs.

If I were a corporate leader, I would bargain with the pharmaceutical industry to get bargain rates for medications and distribute them free, so that my employees would have resources to pay for the best healthcare providers.

Opioids do many things pharmacologically including inhibit the cough reflex, thus its standard use in cough syrups.  Using morphine is analogous to using a bulldozer instead of a shovel.

Varenicline actually works to help smokers stop smoking without the use of nicotine.  Nicotine is highly addictive--the component of cigarettes which causes addiction.  It clearly makes sense to replace nicotine.
