Customer satisfaction with ATT is at an all time low, the lowest of the top four carriers in the US. But, the same fate awaits all the other carriers as well. LTE will not eliminate the causes.

Unlike voice, web content load on the network is unpredictable. A given cell phone has at most one call link and a standard relative load. Web content can stream on an unlimited number of connections for a give phone.

Yes, ATT was not prepared for the iPhone. Yes, it's causing a vocal minority some problems. However, this isn't news. People that use crappy cheap phones don't really complain because they bought crappy, cheap phones.

During my time as a CIO with global responsibilities one of my tasks was to find a global cell carrier. We went with AT&T who at the time and probably still today is the leader in terms of global partnerships.

Urban area's present highly difficult and complex radio environments. The solution is a significant increase in microcells in urban areas. Very costly for AT&T and maybe spawning the age of pay as you go mobile data services.

AT&T complains that they are not making money subsidizing the iPhone. In April, 2008 AT&T made the claim that the Internet was running out of bandwidth and would do so by 2010. The freedom to roam is really not so free since our national wireless infrastructure is a hodgepodge and unlike "number portability" there is inadequate portability of customer purchased hardware between carriers.
