yet another anti IL5

This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Analysis By:

Associate Physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care, BRIGHAM AND WOMEN'S HOSPITAL
Implications: While these data seem to be good for medimmune, it is at least the third anti IL5 therapy that has been developed (others by GSK and Schering) . The others have been more extensively studied and if successful will more likely come to market sooner. Furthermore, while it is hoped to make a dent into asthma, prior anti-IL5 therapies have also depleted eosinophils but have not had an impact on asthma. Thus, unless some real efficacy data comes along, this anti IL5 therpay is like ly going to ocme out too late to have an impact and is likely not to be any more effective for asthma than other preparations.

Analysis: IL5 is  a cytokine that is important in eosinophil production and regulation. Eosinophils play an important roel in asthma. It is hoped that anti IL5 will play an important role in depleting eosinophils, and thus in treating asthma.
