Analysis of:
MEDICARE ADDS PERFORMANCE-BASED PAYMENTS FOR PHYSICIANS | www.cms.hhs.gov
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: This drug is from a new class of agents that treat type II diabetes. The advantages of this class of drugs is that there is no hypoglycemia nor is there weight gain on those patients being treated with them.
Analysis: Drugs of this class are very promising drugs in the treatment of Type II diabetes. There is an another drug, Galvus, that will be released by Novartis that does not have to be given in reduced doses in those patients with diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
As CKD is normally under-diagnosed by primary care physicians, the Novartis drug has the potential to be more widely used than the drug released by Merck.
