iPhone - Act1
Analysis of:
Was Verizon Really Wrong To Pass On The iPhone? | telecom.seekingalpha.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: - Vzw never would have been a partner, at least now. - AT&T was bargaining from weakness - This is the first in a long string of heightened benchmarks for device/network integration - The iPhone story is only at the very first chapter
Analysis: Given the corporate culture and market positioning of Verizon Wireless, there never even a chance of an iPhone/VzW marriage at the launch of the device, and frankly, the introduction of an entirely new business model for the wireless business.
It's not all uphill after swallowing Apple's terms either, for instance, AT&T's network will come under more scrutiny than ever for overall voice quality and data speed - both of which are significantly inferior to VzW's. The importance of iPhone is the unveiling of a true collaborative device/network/OS/application suite effort - a benchmark that will set the bar for all those to follow.
