Summary
1. Requip XL will be coming out soon so BI had to come up with Mirapex once daily SR.
2. Once daily dosing is probably better for our Parkinson's patients as this will provide continuous dopaminergic stimulation with less fluctuation.
Analysis
1. Requip XL will hit the market before Mirapex SR so this will initially suck up the market.
2. Both products will allow both GSK and BI to maintain patents on these products as Requip and Mirapex are going generic soon. ('evergreening')
3. Question is what will be the next product? Gene therapy?
4. MIrapex SR will most likely seek for indication for RLS as well, like Requip XL.
5. Any product for Parkinson's med will continue to grow as our population is getting older and although probably the incidence of Parkinson's is the same the prevalence is growing.
