Summary
Sprint commitment to WiMAX is its only hope to recover from its corroding situation. Adopting WiMAX is a "take it or die " alternative , after the huge investment it has done in this area. Sprint is not in a position to decline WiMAX and awaits LTE.
Analysis
Sprint seems to be the major promoter of WiMAX in the USA. Although not announced any alliance or a collaboration with other giants, Sprint remains committed to the technology it has invested in so much.
Sprint's reaffirming of adopting WiMAX is its only alternative to succeed against its rivals. Waiting for LTE is not an option for Sprint since it has to generate revenues after the last charge of $30Bn. The vast investments in wireless infrastructure to cover all USA must show an immediate ROI , and WiMAX should deliver results. Sprint is beyond the reversible point and cannot dispute if it's wise or not to invest or adopt WiMAX. It is actually a decision that it already took.
The delay in WiMAX ( partly due to standards fixing) did not do well to Sprint which focuses on this technology before the others. Therefore, joining forces with iPhone -like handset providers may attract consumers that want to detect from AT&T while providing them with a real fast rate wireless connectivity as WiMAX promises to be.
