Summary

I agree with the author of the original article that DELL should have a smart phone offering like all other PC vendors, however Palm is the wrong choice for DELL. DELL has gotten to where they are by making reliable laptops, desktops and servers, that are priced better than their competition. DELL's whole culture is based on efficient manufacturing of no frills computers, Palm's culture is all about design, those two cultures do not work well together.

Analysis

So what is DELL suppose to do about the smart phone market? Well they should do what they do best: make a reliable well priced Android phone. Android is starting to position itself as the cell phone OS of choice (more future than Symbian, more flexible than Windows mobile, and more readily available than the iPhone OS (since Apple will not work with anyone). A business oriented DELL Android phone could be a big hit.
