What is the predominant software used for mapping gas, oil, minning, and forestry operations?

Implications: When building an enterprise wide geographic information system GIS, utilize the industry data standards that are already in place. By far the largest developer of software in the GIS area ESRI, which was founded in 1969 in California. Today the flagship product of ESRI called ArcView, will work with most Databases. In my experience of over 15 years of utilization of GIS data, ESRI has become the industry leader in all GIS categories. The data format is called the shape file, and so intertwined lwith GIS that even the federal government uses it.
Analysis: ESRI by far the industry standard software for mapping of natural resource data including mining, gas and oil, and forest-based data. ESRI is not a publicly traded company and his family owned. ESRI serves thousands of customers all over the world in providing industry-leading software data and users groups. These users groups have voluntary expertise in a number of GIS areas, and each industry segment has its own users group.
ArcView, the flagship product of ESRI can be found in implemented worldwide. Using GIS data into your everyday business program can open up huge opportunities for further analysis.

"Show the number of acres that are within 500 feet of one of my gold mines?"
"Generate a list of names of people who own land that share a boundary with of my pipelines"
