I certainly welcome the new antibiotic Besivance from B&L, but in their need for sales, are they going to market to general practitioners and pediatricians? I hope not. Daily, I see patients who were prescribed the latest antibiotic for a self-limiting VIRAL ocular infection. This overuse and misuse of any new antibiotics of course leads to the need for even more advanced antibiotics due to drug-resistant bugs. Judicious use of any antibiotic is important, but sales-oriented pharm companies tend to gloss over that when making presentations. Hopefully, B&L will take the high road and advise practitioners wisely.
