Implications: Virtualization is rapidly gaining ground in medium and large firms. Many have deployed VMWare which enables many Operating Systems to reside on a single Server. This technology is being installed every day in more and more date centers. Maximizing CPU utilization is a mainstream topic. Citrix enables dozens of users to have "virtual" desktops, supplied seamlessly by a single server. All a user needs is a browser, point to the Citrix server and voila, he/she has a full secured set of desktop applications. Storage is now virtualized by software. For example, multiple servers attach to a "box of disks" also called a SAN, Storage Area Network. This SAN removes the concept of "these disks belong with this server". All servers share all the disks.
Analysis: Net Result, virtual desktops connect to virtual servers which connect to virtual storage. Software is the key!
