Analysis

In my opinion, Verizon has been the real leader of the Big 4 postpaid wireless carriers for some time, and their decision to continue to manage their own wireless network simply supports that.

In my experience and my customers experiences, Verizon's network is the best, with AT&T having the second best network.  Verizon's "Can you hear me now" ads are the most effective and most successful longest running ads of the Big 4.

The old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".  Verizon wisely continues to live up to this motto.

But in defense of Sprint, looking at their financials and their huge loss of CDMA postpaid customers, despite what they are gaining from Boost Mobile, I think at least for now, Sprint made the right decision for Sprint to outsource their network management.  Besides, in all my own and customers experiences with Sprint, despite all their most recent upgrades, they never learned that "Hey man, it's the network".  Sprints network to this day just never seemed to work as they promised, even though they are somewhat better.  So perhaps Ericcson will do a much better job of it while Sprint can focus on fixing their problems in other areas.  Time will tell...
