Implications: Verizon pushes into mobile video animation with Hellboy. Talk about timing.
Analysis: Well, what can I say except that Hellboy has gone mainstream and that Verizon is showing animated videos. I think this is great. I think this is great.
Hellboy will be attracting a certain audience and user to Verizon’s entertainment network. I think this is an important event. Hellboy is immensely popular with a certain reader and movie go-er.
Critics of wireless video, including myself, have complained about the need for quality product. Hellboy is a step in the right direction. Analysts should not look at Hellboy through their own eyes but through the eyes of the consumer. The last Hellboy movie made a lot of money.
Someone out there is willing to watch this new mobile video. The question now is anyone willing to pay to watch it?
The mobile media space is in a state of evolution. The wireless carrier community needs to focus on getting quality product and creating a revenue model that will work for all parties involved.
