Summary

Triple negative Breast cancer has been a phenotype with little hope up until recently
While advances in hormonal therapy and Her2 blocking agents has revolutionized ER/PR + and Her 2 positive breast cancer therapy, triple negative breast cancer pulls down the outcomes, with similar responses as for non small cell lung cancer

Analysis

Triple negative breast cancer has been a very difficult situation for breast cancer experts, that are use to seeing more than half of their advanced/metastatic patients respond to therapy. The disease is more like that on adenoca of the lung. Even the emphasis on platinum based regimens follows that thread. I see the oncology world welcoming any help in this arena. I think both the PARP inhibitor studies as well as the Endotagtm studies are encouraging, but don't look for these drugs to stay in the breast cancer arena, based on my opinion about the pathophysiology of this subtype of breast cancer. Therefore don't limit the interest of these drugs to triple negative breast cancer and I'm sure the pharma industry won't.
