Summary
In response to Mr. Schulz's article, as usual very well written, but if my memory serves me correct, it wasn't very long ago that you were an aggressive supporter of NAFTA.
Analysis
My analysis, "What am I missing" was given five negative rating, although the very point Mr. Schulz is getting at pertaining to his analysis, was the very reason I felt NAFTA would destroy our U.S. economy.
If transportation profitability were scarce, then how would by adding a larger abundance of carriers help the transportation companies maintain their slim operating profits to begin with?
This article has nothing to do with NAFTA, it has more to do with, "You can't have your cake and eat it too."
As I've stated prior, I have the ability to speak to college students a couple of times per year, and it's very interesting to look at the younger generations thought process.
Their thought process is this, if it looks profitable today then by all means jump on the bandwagon tomorrow. Here's were you can't have your cake and eat it too comes in.
U.S. carriers have an abundance of state and federal laws to maintain compliance with; they also have to deal with a rise in fuel cost, not to mention union contract negotiations, health and wealth fare benefits, and a rise in their overall operating expenses.
These very issues are what destroy the average transportation companies ability for profitability.
Now on one hand, people love NAFTA, but on the other hand, transportation profits are down.
In simple terms, we either allow U.S. transportation companies the ability to recoup there loses, and become more profitably sound or we allow them to become extinct. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
