Summary

The effect could be wide spread not because of Eon or any other power generating company's decision to delay their coal fired projects.  But, from the hangover we still have from the 2008 financial meltdown along with the resistance from environmentalists, politicians and the general public.

Analysis

Carbon capture and storage equipment manufacturers are faced with many other problems besides the delay of Eon's project.  There is a substantial amount pressure being applied by environmental groups, scientists and politicians.  These groups and/or individuals do not believe it's the best technology to implement because no one knows what future problems it will create.  Also, carbon capture and storage is not the only solution for reducing or eliminating carbon emissions.

Many documents have been published that are in favor of capturing and storing CO2 along with an equal number condemning the solution as being to dangerous or costly.  Before the technology is used worldwide the supporters of the CCS program should be more transparent with their reason for sponsoring capture and storage.  Do they support it because it's the best solution, or, to recover their investment in dry holes and low volume wells.

If we have the technology to capture CO2 then why not neutralize and mitigate it not store it.  Capturing and separating the carbon from the oxygen is the technology that should be developed and implemented.  Why can't we do something with it besides pumping it into the earth for future generations to deal with?  What happens to the pumping stations when we have major storms, tsunamis or earth quakes?
