Tata Consultancy Services has been making its presence known in North America for years. It has been operating under the radar.
Analysis
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been in North America for years. As I recall t started making significant inroads in the telecom space about 10 years ago. The company provided and still provides quality consulting services at a low cost. The company’s main workforce is in India and yes the company has a cost advantage over domestic North American-based companies. But it is what it is – a corporate force.
A year or so ago I called Tata the GE of India. It is not quite a precise description of the company but it is an anecdotal description. The point I was making was and still is that Tata is big in India and just about makes or is involved in everything in India. Back in the day when GE had the same depth and breadth in North America, Tata is that to India. So think very deep pockets when you think Tata. They ain’t going away anytime soon. Yes the company’s revenues are dependent on outsourcing but you know that business is not going away either.
Tata’s Mr. Chandrasekaran has made a significant point. Cloud computing is a business model. I totally agree. The most obvious example of that in the telecom space is Qualcomm’s FLO TV, which I recently discussed in my own blog. Cloud computing is a technology approach in as much as it is a business model; maybe more so than you can realize.
