Summary
Tarceva, when added to Avastin, as maintenance therapy after standard chemo in adenocarcinomas of the lung, prolonged disease progression. The ATLAS trial will make this the standard of care post initial therapy in >50% of lung cancers (about 50,000+ patients/year.)
Analysis
We have not seen how robust the statistics are but I'm impressed for now. The only downside is this will double the cost of maintenance so the FDA as well as insurers need to go along. It is far from a cure, but any significant prolongation of life will be worthwhile.
