Summary
Mr. Schulze's analysis, brought up some very key issues, pertaining to the FMCSA reconfiguration of the Hours Of Service Rule, are these changes going to be detrimental to American trucking companies?
Analysis
We can all agree any rule pertaining to the FMCSA, can be interpreted in a hundred different ways. Look at the 49 CFR rules and regulations, if you were to ask one hundred people for their interpretation of a 49 CFR rule and regulation, you can be guaranteed to get one hundred different interpretations.
The FMCSA, was implemented to insure U.S. carriers who violated rules and regulations were fined. If you interpret the law one way, and our government interprets the law another way, guess who get's fined and or sanctioned?
I've looked over the new Hour Of Service Rule, and the only difference would be this,a long haul driver who's run would normally take him one full day, may now take him a day and a half, maybe a little less.
I realize most people will disagree with my opinion, but trust me our roads will be much safer. I'm all for profit, but I believe a human life ranks above profitability.
U.S. drivers will now have the ability to rest during their pickups and deliveries, and this will insure the immediate public is safe and U.S. drivers are rested.
Getting back to my implications, will the new Hours Of Service Rule rules destroy the U.S. transportation industry? No. Carriers will have to restructure their style of pickups and deliveries pertaining to long haul drivers, but in an overall retrospect, everything should remain the same.
Will this be an inconvenience for U.S. Carriers? Yes. But not detrimental.
Thank You,
Tony Sottile
