Sprint is Alive
Analysis of:
10 Reasons to Love Sprint | www.unstrung.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: Sprint seems to be in the news daily with either Duetsch Telecom trying to buy them or at least thinking about it and with their consortium 4G wireless thing with Clearwire being built this year ahead of VZ's long term evolution (LTE) rollout entry into 4G wireless. Sprint's purchase/merger with Nextel has not paid off and their wireless technology doesn't match up with T or VZ, but they do seem to be making some better decisions and minding their business P's and Q's.
Analysis: The Unstrung News Analysis article by editor Dan Jones will make you smile a little, as he goes step-by-step covering some more less than negative Sprint tidbits than we are used to seeing in the news. The Clearwire 4G venture is timed to be ahead of Verizon's long term evolution 4G entry, possibly attracting some business as the first game in town to offer higher speed mobile data. And following the referenced article, the first quarter data revenues are higher than last year and so on (read for yourself). Possibly, the arrival of the former Embarq CEO, Dan Hesse to Sprint, has actually had a positive impact in a fairly short time. This is good news, right? Perhaps, Duetsch Telecom's M&A research will turn up more reasons to look seriously at whether or not to write a check for this puppy. Finally, better advertising from Sprint, NASCAR sponsorship, and the fact that the Overland Park, KS company's employees are "carbon-based lifeforms breathing oxygen" all make me smile, anyway.
