Summary
Skype has resorted to technology marketing and forgotten what has brought about its success. It's becoming a bubble dotcom company inside Ebay and forgetting its roots.
Analysis
Skype is very hungry to prove that it can earn revenue, especially in the business market. Today, the business market is not spending money because of the global crisis. So, why announce globally a press release about a VoIP protocol that none of their users care about and none of the businesses would convert over to because they don't have the extra funds to Skype enable their PBX.
Skype once communicated with the market but today, its users are just that, users. Being inside Ebay, they have learnt about the benefits and power of data mining, something Skype now has over 5 years worth of to tap into. Skype is looking for new revenue when the source of revenue is within their data.
It is a positive move for Skype to support SIP but its during a time when no has the money nor really cares because for the goodness of all and not for Skype, the Skype call will still and always be free!
