Analysis

Remeron has a unique mechanism of action which sets it apart from most other antidepressant drugs such as the SSRI's, the SNRI's, the TCA's and the MAO-inhibitors. It can be of great benefit to patients who do not respond to these other drugs. Remeron can also cause some sedation and weight gain which is ideal for underweight depressed patients with insomnia and poor appetite. Japan also has Savella/Minalciprain for depression. In the USA Savella is only indicated for Fibromyalgia even though it is an SNRI.
