Summary
Should Broadcom buy Emulex or Qlogic and why? Should EMC buy QLogic? What is the real root cause of this activity?
Analysis
Broadcom realizes that it has come to the storage party too late, so it is trying to broaden its product portfolio by buying fiber channel technology from Emulex, not realizing that Cisco is changing the rules, as I wrote recently in a related post on Cisco's unified computing system platform. The other complicating factor is that sides are being taken in the entire data center vendor market that need to be respected, or disaster will result. Some of the assertions in the artcile are correct, while others are not, as they are based on the landscape before Cisco's recent moves.
