Implications: The country spends an inordinate amount on health care for people who experience conditions and illnesses that could have been prevented.  IBM recognizes the importance of Prevention as a mainstay of their health program. Prevention and Wellness companies are the future of health care delivery.

Analysis: IBM has recognized the value of Prevention and Wellness programs and their ability to control costs. They estimate that "employee-wellness programs have saved it between $100 million and $130 million a year in avoided health-care costs." They are now looking to expand these services to target children with obesity. Obesity is a major factor in many chronic conditions including cardiac issues and diabetes along with its impact on a persons joints and their future replacement.

IBM is very forward thinking in their approach.  Companies that offer successful Prevention and Wellness services are poised to see substantial growth as the employers move to integrate these programs into their benefits package.
