Post Summer Vacation – Alcatel-Lucent Gets New Bosses
Analysis of:
Alcatel Picks 2 Europeans To Take Over Its Top Posts | online.wsj.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: Pat Russo and Serge Tchuruk have gone. I wish them well. Now we have Ben Verwaayen and Philippe Camus to run Alcatel-Lucent. Healing is a bad word to describe what Verwaayen and Camus need to do,
Analysis: The board of directors for Alcatel-Lucent had to assume control of the company. Their installation of Ben Verwaayen and Philippe Camus to run Alcatel-Lucent is a sign the board is seeking answers via its European roots. Supposedly such an action will also entail “healing” cultural differences between the French and American factions of the company. My own thoughts are that Alcatel-Lucent needs to sell off parts of Lucent. As I said in my past analysis "It Is Time For Change At Alcatel – Sell Lucent To Motorola and Nortel", the time has come to give up on integrating the two disparate corporate cultures. Product lines have not been merged well at all. There is no corporate identity.
The company looks like it has been glued together.
Even with a change in management this needs to be done.
Alcatel’s board needs to know understand that the game is over and it is time to move on. Get out while the gettin’ is good.
