Summary

Progression to the next step of clinical trials for topical NSAID - Diclofenac.

Analysis

Topical treatment of Diclofenac was compared to pre-existing delivery of Voltaren for localized muscle and joint NSAID treatment.
The main issues that need to be evaluated include cost, safety, systemic and local tissue levels of the drugs.  Clearly they are trialing these, and thus far, have had favorable results both with absorption through dermis as well as systemic levels.
Some of the issues that arise are the comparisons of systemic drug levels, being that a lot of the efficacy is probably (not definitely) dependent on systemic anti-inflammatory levels.
On a local tissue level, it will act as an analgesic mostly.
Analgesic > anti-inflammatory > antipyretic.
Certainly favorable data!
Will be exciting to see how it does next phase.
