Summary

Veterinary pharmaceutics have great potential for growth for companies that are willing and able to expand into this market.  This market should be considered by the Nycomed Bradley team as it follows the company philosophy of the Nycomed CEO's "The acquisition enables us to gain critical mass in the dermatology market and provide significant momentum for further add-on investments".  Veterinary dermatological conditions have parallel situations in human dermatology with enough unique causes that create a need for additional pharmaceutics for treatment.

Analysis

The paucity of veterinary pharmaceutics for treatment of dermatological conditions in animals creates a unique market for biologic companies to expand the market for their products.  Animals are afflicted with many dermatological conditions such as atopy, staphylococcal dermatitis, flea allergies, plant allergies (weed, tree and grass), various forms of bacterial pyoderma, pox and papilloma viruses, Malassezia dermatitis, and numerous forms of mycotic dermatitis.  Most of the pharmaceutics used to treat skin conditions in animals are "extra label" use.
