Analysis of:
Cell Genesys Announces Encouraging Results from Phase 1/2 Trial of GVAX Immunotherapy for Prostate Cancer in Recurrent Disease | www.pipelinereview.com

Implications: Novel therapy for advance recurrent prostate cancer that does not rely upon traditional standard hormone therapy. This has the potential for men to continue to be sexually active while receiving treatment for advanced disease. It also opens the door to other therapeutic interventions.
Analysis: This represents a highly promising option. Traditionally with recurrent advanced prostate cancer, hormone manipulation has been the primary choice. This generally renders men impotent but also has nasty side effects of hot flashes, sweating, loss of muscle mass and appetite. Although this is an early study, phase I/II with only 19 men, the company clearly needs to proceed with phase 3 and 4 trials.
