Summary
-Combination vaccines are becoming the rule in the US and Europe. In the U.S. we have the 5-in-1 combination vaccines Pentacel and Pediarix already in use. -In India a combination vaccine may come at too high a cost for widespread use
Analysis
Comvac5 is certainly an advance for the Indian market - combination vaccines mean less pain, more universal vaccine coverage and less needles used (and thus less potential for needle reuse). However, success of most combination vaccines depends on cost. If the combination vaccine costs more than the sum of its components, who will pick up that cost? Not likely the Indian consumer, and not likely the national or local governments.
In the U.S., the cost of combination vaccines is basically a wash compared to the individual components, so they make sense. In India, if the combo is priced to help recoup development costs it may not garner much market share.
