Summary

Nintendo is beginning to regain their dominance of the video game industry.

Analysis

Both Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii outsold all other next gen consoles during the month of February.

Nintendo has always focused on innovative gameplay. The Wii controller and Super Paper Mario are both good examples. And in the past year they have been attempting to expand the entire market by making games that appeal to nontraditional game players.

Nintendo also knows how to price their consoles, something Sony has seemed to have trouble understanding. The PS3 is just not selling at $600 and in fact is probably being outsold by the PS2. The PSP (PlayStation Portable) had more impact on the DS market prior to its release where it imposed a "wait and see" attitude on game publishers. A redesigned DS-Lite has helped Nintendo sell 23 Million handheld units and is well on its way to 35 Million.

Nintendo is reestablishing the dominance it once had when it took over the game industry with the original NES after others like Atari had stumbled and fallen and journalists declared the game industry a passing fad.
