Nichia Beats the Record for White LED Efficiency for All Power Levels
Analysis of:
Cree Xlamp(R) LED's Chosen for ASP Triad Flashlights | biz.yahoo.com
This analysis is solely the work of the author. It has not been edited or endorsed by GLG.
Implications: 1. With white LEDs, flash lights last forever.
2. LEDs exceed luminous efficiency of fluorescent lamps and
hence will be more power efficient in future.
3. LEDs have no mercury in them like Fluorescent lamps
and hence no 'poisoning' effect if broken.
Analysis: The latest news on white LED efficiency for all power categories:
In the medium power category of 350mA, Nichia's white LED yields 106 lumens and 90 lm/w; for high power of 2A, 400 lumens; for low power of 20mA, 138 lm/w.
These figures surpass all previously known records. This was reported at the recent LED conference held in San Diego between October 16-18, 2006.
