Summary

Oticon's new bone anchored hearing implant might offer unique advantages to the hearing impaired.

Analysis

Oticon's new bone anchored system might have the added advantage of improving bone conduction of sound waves. This would clearly make this system better than other existing systems including the Cochlear implants. The big question is whether insurance companies will pay for it. Currently most insurance companies will not cover the cost of hearing aids even in children with sensory/Neuro hearing loss. There are a few exceptions such as the state of Colorado which requires insurance carriers to pay for treatments for hearing impairment. It will be interesting to see if the insurance companies with cover Oticon's bone anchored system.
