Summary
Management also contributed to the demise of Rover by lacking a basic understanding of the operation and the business they were in. Who hired these people?
Analysis
Based on this information it would seem that management and directors contributed to the demise of MG Rover. A business associate visited the Rover operation shortly after it was acquired by BMW. Discussions with the workers on the plant floor revealed that many of them had to bring their own tools from home to do their work in the plant. When asked if management was aware of this he was told, "They have never been on the plant floor. How would they know?" This sounds like the typical case of a company being run by people who may be smart people but who are ignorant about how the company operates and do not really understand the business there were managing. Who hired those managers?
