Implications: This move conforms with Lundbeck's strategy to concentrate on CNS areas and to bring in other parties to develop non-CNS applications.

Analysis: Always with a strong CNS presence, Lundbeck divested its non-CNS activities - mostly to its Copenhagen neighbour Novo Nordisk - well over a decade ago. Lundbeck's web site shows that its aim is to become a world leader in neurology and psychiatry. The current deal conforms with this strategy.

In principle, it could make sense for Lundbeck to become involved if it proved that the technology worked in brain cancers. That would be a logical extension for the company of the indication areas it currently covers. However, there is no mention that this compound - originally tested as an anxiolytic - might be active in this area of cancer.
